FA Cup Match: Spurs 3-2 Manchester City
Date Played: May 1981
In the first several minutes, Ardiles was brought down by a challenge from Gerry Gow. After eight minutes, Ardiles once again galloped past two defenders and his drive rebounded off Steve Archibald, whose hit was parried by Joe Corrigan. Ricardo Villa followed it up by scoring the rebound. Four minutes later, Ray Ransons free kick for Manchester was only half cleared, and Tommy Hutchinson confidently headed the ball sideways to Steve Mackenzie, who delightfully volleyed from the edge of the box to make it all square. Glenn Hoddle smashed the post three minutes later. In the 52nd minute, Dave Bennett sprinted into the Spurs area and was challenged by Paul Miller and Chris Hughton. Kevin Reeve smashed the penalty into the back of the net and the score was 2-1. With 20 minutes left on the clock, Hoddle chipped into the box and Garth Crooks chipped the equalizer home for Spurs. Ricardo Villa ghosted past four defenders and scored a wonder goal with only minutes remaining.
