Francis Lee

Lee was an integral part of the Manchester City side that was built by Joe Mercer in the late 60’s. No defender could relax when they were asked to mark Francis Lee. In his first season at Manchester City, he scored 16 goals in 31 league matches as City won the league title. Lee starred alongside players like Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee and Neil Young. Lee’s mixture of speed, skill and impudence helped City. He was a member of the Manchester City side that beat Leicester in the FA Cup final of 1969 and he returned with them a year later to triumph in the league cup final. Lee departed from Manchester City in 1974 to join Derby County for £110,000. The fresh challenge motivated him to his exuberant finest and helped Derby win the league title, prior deciding to hang up his boots in May 1976.

Alan Oakes

Oakes was only aged 16 years and two months when he made his Manchester City debut. As the seasons went by, Oakes proved to be one of the most consistent football players in the football league. He was particularly outstanding during the 1967-68 season as his excellent displays helped Manchester City to winning the league title. He was a very fair and sporting football player, only picking up few yellow cards during his long career. He won the league cup with Manchester City in 1976 before leaving at the end of the season. In total, Oakes made 669 appearances for the club, a club record. After his long spell at City he moved on to play for Chester in the summer of 1976.
